Shirley DePrez, Education Coordinator, is making plans for the 2009 Pioneer Day program in the 4th-grade classrooms of all Shelby County schools. This is a very successful program provided by the Historical Society to educate students about pioneer culture, history and skills. If you would like to volunteer to help with the program, please call the office at Grover Museum, 392-4634. Every volunteer is valuable.

Students learn about customs of the past with a variety of hands-
on activities, some of which are:

                                     *  Storytelling
                                     *  Stenciling
                                     *  Weaving
                                     *  Quilting
                                     *  Toy making
                                     *  Girls make a mob cap
                                     *  Boys make a coonskin hat
                                     *  Students learn 2 songs on
                                         the dulcimer, then play as
                                         a group
